Michiana Figure Skating Club Members
Dear members:
We hope you had a wonderful summer and are anxious to get back into skating. There have been many changes that have taken place over the summer that we would like to share with you.
The University of Notre Dame, in anticipation of the opening of the new Compton Family Ice Arena (CFIA), has asked that MFSC and the Ice Box Skating Club merge. The University’s thought was that it was best to move forward with one, new local figure skating club – and - that mirroring the approach of local youth hockey (one organization that uses both facilities) would be a better way to move forward. They believe it is the best way to enable the growth of local figure skating (utilizing ice at both ice facilities, available instructor resources, etc.) based on the size of our community and the current club enrollment level.
The newly merged club will be called the Irish Figure Skating Club (IFSC). While the process of merging the two clubs is underway all details have not been determined. At this point we do not believe that IFSC will be running a learn-to skate (LTS) program in the future – it will most likely be run by of the CFIA. IFSC will be renting ice from CFIA and will offer private lessons – other offerings have not yet been determined (such as the standardized test group lessons that we typically offered on our Wednesday night sessions, etc.) We believe that the CFIA will offer walk-on sessions for additional practice and private lessons that will be available to IFSC members – times and days have not yet been determined.
IFSC is currently running an 8-week LTS session on Friday nights at the Ice Box from 5:30-7:30 (PM) – the session runs from September 30 through November 18, 2011. After November 18, 2011 the LTL Sessions will continue at the CFIA.
We ask for your support and patience during this transition to the new rink and the merging of the two clubs – we will keep you informed of new details as they become available. The MFSC board believes that by merging the two clubs we can provide a strong, united figure skating program for our members and the local community.
