About Michiana FSC

The Michiana Figure Skating Club (MFSC) was started in 1968 with the mission of promoting the growth and development of the sport of figure skating for recreational and competitive figure skaters in Michiana and surrounding areas. To encourage and assist amateur and adult skaters in attaining their figure skating goals, and to inform and educate the public on the benefits and enjoyment derived from the sport of figure skating. Learn To skate Program

  • Hockey and Figure Skating

    Sunday afternoons 2:00-3:30 group lessons. The Michiana Figure Skating Club utilizes the United Skates Figure Skating (USFS) Basic Skills program tests (Basic 1-8), and the Standard USFS Moves in the Field and Freestyle tests as a guide for the Learn to Skate Program for both Hockey and Figure Skating
  • Advanced Skating Session

    Wednesday 7:00-8:30-Moves in the Field, Freestyle and Dance instruction available.
  • Private/ Semi-Private

    Private (one student) Semi-Private (two students) Lessons (Also Available on Sunday) Private or semi-private lessons are available for any level of skater and are recommended upon passing Basic Skill test 8. Private lessons must be initiated by contacting Club officers or emailing mfsc792@cs.com . Please do not contact the instructor directly.

USFSA Testing Structure Information

  • Basic Skill tests teach the fundamentals of figure skating at a beginning level and are a used as a pre-requisite to learning freestyle jumps and spins. There are basic skill tests for figure, dance, pair, synchronized skating, hockey, and adults
  • Moves in the Field (MIF) tests are basic skating moves at a more advanced level and focus on power, edge quality, extension, and quickness. There are eight MIF tests. Full regular USFS membership is required to be elgible for MIF testing
  • Standard freestyle tests are designed to teach jumps and spins in a logical sequence, that along with moves in the field elements, make a complete figure skating program. There are eight freestyle tests. Full regular USFS membership is required to be elgible for Freestyle testing
  • Passing MIF and Freestyle tests can allow the skater to compete at qualifying competitions (local, regional, national and Olympic) and obtain teaching certifications

MFSC Membership Information

  • USFS Basic Skill membership is required for first year members enrolled in Snow Plow Sam through Basic 8, regular full USFS membership is required for all returning members
